Are we breeding hatred ?

Place: Delhi-UP Border ( Near dilshad garden metro station )     

                Yes it was 11^th of Nov 2011 or dhanteras to be more precise. It’s a time marked by visits to close relatives , friends , near and dear ones. I was returning from my aunt’s house which was about two kilometers from Dilshad Garden metro station. Local tempos fared passengers from delhi-up border up to Mohan Nagar red light en-route several small stoppages. There were police men around the passage of local tempos.

The tempo driver gave a ten rupee note to a man with dark complexion and a lot of stubble. I did not pay heed to why the tempo driver gave a ten rupee note to that man. I pondered over it for sometime . To avoid the mental discussion breeding in my mind I thought of noticing the nearby area. ‘ 1920 Evil returns ‘ one movie poster read. 

On my journey back to the metro station I asked the tempo driver the question that had been circulating in my mind all the time. “ Padhe likhe ho. . . haraam ki kamai samajhte ho??. Even the police officers have their share in this money.” the tempo driver said to me with a disgusting expression as he pointed me towards the same man that I had seen two hours ago.

I observed that man for a while and walked towards the U turn under the bridge where a road separated the national capital with it’s neighbouring state. There were three white dressed people of delhi traffic police and a small cabin but no one was concerned about that man. Now if we look at the bigger picture, suppose  there are 50 tempos, each tempo covering its route 10times daily.

Money that the tempo driver gives to that man in a single turn= Rs 10.

Money for 10 turns ( of a single tempo) = Rs 10x10= Rs 100

Total money of 50 tempos= 50x100=Rs 5000(per day) and Rs 1,50,000 ( per month).!! May be these figures may not be accurate but there are a few questions.

1.       How much money that tempo driver will be making daily ??

2.       On whose authority that man is charging 10rs per turn?

3.       What the police officials are doing there? (  Watching the show? Taking the bribe).

4.       Aren’t we breeding hatred among the common man.

It’s a story of one place. There are still several places where this practice is going on. The movie poster of ‘ evil returns ‘ flashed to my mind. Is this the real evil returns or the open loot of money from poor helpless people ?. May be we are moving forward but still we are ostracizing a part of our own society. It’s a democracy right or monopoly of some dacoits that loot people.
